The 1.6 update for Stardew Valley, the popular farming simulation game, is set to release for PC users on March 19th. Creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone took to social media to express his gratitude to fans for their support before announcing the upcoming update. Console and mobile updates will follow shortly after. Barone expressed his desire to avoid any long delays, which has happened in the past.
Since the previous 1.5 update in 2020, Barone shifted his focus to developing Haunted Chocolatier. However, he confirmed a smaller 1.6 update was in development back in November 2022, focusing mainly on mod support. However, the scope of the project soon shifted, and Barone has teased the introduction of in-game festivals, new dialogue lines, items, outfits, and recipes. Furthermore, cats will now be able to wear hats, and more “secrets” will be available for players to discover.
The update’s release is accompanied by other Stardew Valley-related events, such as a global concert tour, an official cookbook coming soon, and over 30 million copies sold. Barone expressed his gratitude towards the players that made it all possible and promised to continue working hard on future updates.
As the long-awaited 1.6 update takes center stage, Barone has taken a break from Haunted Chocolatier, previously stating that it would release when he is personally satisfied with it. The game aims to explore “weird, transcendental ideas” about ghosts and odd scenarios, and expects to feature even weirder music that wouldn’t have been possible with Stardew Valley.
