Texan band Cigarettes After Sex have released their latest single, ‘Tejano Blue’, from their upcoming album ‘X’s’. Lead vocalist Greg Gonzalez’s earlier music influences as a native of El Paso, Texas, inspired the upbeat rhythms. “You could go to a lot of the bars in the city and hear artists like Selena, Los Ángeles Azules and La Mafia playing over the speakers,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez expressed that he always rejected the local Tejano music and instead gravitated towards anything else that piqued his interests. Years later, his rediscovery of Selena’s ‘Como La Flor’ while listening to Cocteau Twins and his desire to merge their unique sound led to the inspiration for ‘Tejano Blue’.
The band’s third album, ‘X’s’, follows the story of a four-year relationship and is set to release on July 12 via Partisan. Compared to their previous heartbreak themed albums, this album feels more brutal, Gonzalez said, as he writes and sings about his real-life relationship.
Additionally, the band has announced their massive world tour, which includes US, EU, UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Asia. The tour will begin in June at the Bonnaroo festival and end in March 2025 in Auckland, New Zealand.
Pre-sales of the concert tickets will begin on Tuesday, March 5, at 10 am local time for the North American dates. Other pre-sales include international promoter pre-sales and general ticket sales that will commence on Friday, March 8, at 10 am local time.
The full tracklist for ‘X’s’ is as follows: “‘X’s,’ ‘Tejano Blue,’ ‘Silver Sable,’ ‘Hideaway,’ ‘Holding you, Holding me,’ ‘Dark Vacay,’ ‘Baby Blue Movie,’ ‘Hot,’ ‘Dreams From Bunker Hill,’ and ‘Ambien Slide’”. ‘X’s’ is a follow-up album to their 2019 LP ‘Cry,’ which attracted many with its emotional love letter themes
