Drummer Eloy Casagrande has left Brazilian metal band Sepultura ahead of their final world tour. In a social media post, Casagrande cited the need to make decisions “thinking about new cycles that will come” after the band’s split. He thanked the band for his time with them, acknowledging his respect and gratitude towards them. Casagrande has been replaced by Greyson Nekrutman, who has previously drummed for William Duvall and Suicidal Tendencies.
Sepultura announced their split after 40 years of performing together in December 2023. They confirmed they would be completing a final world tour before going their separate ways, announcing that they would celebrate their 40 years by recording 40 live tracks in 40 different cities. In addition, they also plan to release a massive compilation of their best moments on stage.
Casagrande first joined Sepultura in 2011, playing on three albums including 2020’s ‘Quadra.’ In their post, Sepultura mentioned that they were “taken by surprise” by the news of Casagrande’s sudden departure. The post attributed it to his wish to pursue another project.
Fans may be surprised by the news, but Casagrande emphasised that “decisions needed to be made thinking about new cycles that will come.” He teased that “there is a lot to come, and I hope to continue making a lot of music and art.” The band has not yet commented on their future plans or if there will be a replacement for Casagrande after their final tour
