The annual Recess event series is set to launch its biggest party yet at the weekend, taking over the former IKEA space in Tottenham. The event’s mission is to promote black music genres in top-notch venues, with this year’s event focusing on heritage funky. As well as sets from Keyrah, DJ Nate, AyChibs and Hagan, the two-room event will feature as yet unnamed special guests and be introduced by Fatz Official, Jermz2shoo and Willz.
This year’s Recess event will be hosted in a setting capable of entertaining a maximum of 15,000 guests. Those attending the Drumsheds takeover can expect “an audio-visual experience built around the sounds that make London pop”. However, it is important to note that the event is not exclusive to any demographic.
Recess has hosted over 100 parties across the globe, ranging from Accra to Ibiza and expects hundreds to attend this year’s event. The series began life as a local event, attracting under 15,000 people. However, the event has continued to grow and prosper, with last year’s Recessland festival in Margate gaining an impressive crowd of over 7,000. It also ran a 4,000-strong day event in Paris.
This year’s parties cover a wide range of music genres, with the intention to be accessible to all. It is expected that the event will set the tone for festivities and events throughout the year. Tickets are available on the website and are expected to go quickly
