Andriy Kyrychenko, the founder of the Next Sound Festival, has recently released a new album titled ‘MARIA,’ dedicated to Ukrainian liberation artist Maria Pryimachenko. The 14-track album was launched on February 23 by UK label Touched Music, with 50% of the proceeds going to cancer charities and Ukrainian charities respectively. Kyrychenko’s ‘MARIA’ pays tribute to the late Ukrainian artist and painter who passed away in 1997, whose work had an enormous impact on Ukrainian identity and was admired by famous artists like Pablo Picasso.
The album was created following years of studying Pryimachenko’s artistry as a self-taught artist. It was also created in response to the loss of some of her works during Russia’s bombardment of Ukraine in 2022. ‘”MARIA” seeks to recreate Pryimachenko’s work by conveying her artistic philosophy through sound textures throughout the record, and the album is an ode to her contribution to Ukrainian identity.
The album’s tracklist, which includes songs like “May That Nuclear War Be Cursed!” and “Wild Bull and Raven are Friends,” can be found on Bandcamp. Fans of the album can purchase it from the site.
Kyrychenko himself has stated that “the images of ‘naive art’ appeal to amazing archetypal spaces that reproduce both the national identity and personal aspirations of Maria, faith in the power of love, goodness and all the beautiful things that surround us.” Through his music, Kyrychenko aims to carry Pryimachenko’s legacy forward and allow her artistic philosophy to move people even in the 21st century.
With ‘MARIA,’ Andriy Kyrychenko continues to promote Ukrainian identity and arts, and his dedication to carry forward the legacy and philosophy of Maria Pryimachenko is an inspiration for budding artists and music producers
