A. G. Cook announces new album ‘Britpop’

British musician A.G. Cook has revealed that his new album “Britpop” will be released in May via his new label New Alias. The 24-track album is divided into three sections: “Past,” “Present,” and “Future,” which cover Cook’s electronic style, traditionally-aligned Britpop, and his modern sound, respectively. Cook said that the album is inspired by his experiences as a British person living in a small Montana town throughout the pandemic, and drew upon his own “idiosyncratic history” for inspiration.

The new album’s title track “Britpop” features longtime collaborator Charli XCX and features lyrics like “Brit like Britpop” over a mix of jagged percussion and glittering synths. Cook, who is often credited with popularizing the hyperpop sound, has also previously collaborated with Beyoncé and Caroline Polachek, among others.

Cook’s new record label came about after he announced that his previous one, PC Music, will stop releasing new music. “After a decade of activity, 2023 will be PC Music’s final year of new releases,” Cook said in a statement last year. “Following that, the label will be dedicated to archival projects and special reissues. We have an undisclosed number of new albums and singles coming very soon,” he added.

Cook released his first single since the closure of PC Music last month with “Silver Golden Needle,” which was a 10-minute-long track that was released on his new label N.A. Fans of the musician and producer can pre-order “Britpop” online now.
