Following singer Tory Lanez’s conviction and subsequent sentencing to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, rapper Drake has taken to social media to call for Lanez’s freedom. Drake shared a photo of Lanez on his Instagram story along with the caption “3 you,” but did not issue a more in-depth statement.
Lanez began serving his sentence in August 2023, but there are reports it could be shortened to nine years. Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion has continued to speak out about the shooting and its aftermath. She submitted a court statement to Lanez’s trial, in which she wrote: “Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace. Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”
In her first public appearance since Lanez’s sentencing, Megan Thee Stallion addressed those who doubted her story and questioned her claims, telling them, “None of that shit you was doing or saying broke me. None of that shit y’all be doing or saying to the Hotties [her fans] broke them.” The rapper underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet following the shooting.
Megan Thee Stallion released a “final” response to the lanez verdict in April 2023. In the message, she reflected on the “humiliation” she had faced from the public when coming forward with the claims. She wrote: “I could have let the adversity break me, but I persevered, even as people treated my trauma like a running joke. It never crossed my mind that people wouldn’t believe me. Still, I knew the truth and the indisputable facts would prevail.”
