Ahead of this year’s BRIT Awards, the drum ‘n’ bass duo Chase & Status has been named the 2024 Producer of the Year. Alongside the accolade, the pair has also been nominated for Best Group, competing against nominees such as Jungle, Blur, and K-Trap. The 2024 BRIT Awards ceremony will take place on March 2, and will also see Chase & Status perform with previous BRIT Dance Act winner Becky Hill.
Reacting to the win, the duo said, “We’ve been flying the flag for British music now for a long time, we’re super proud of all the music that has come out of the UK.” The win is significant for the duo as they believe it recognises their role as producers, which they consider an important aspect of their art.
Chase & Status released their album ‘2 Ruff Vol 1’ before the end of 2023, featuring hit singles like ‘Baddadan’ with Bou, Irah, Trigga and Takura, and the track ‘Disconnect’, which they collaborated on with Becky Hill. The former reached millions of streams in the UK alone, underlining the duo’s influence across British music.
The 2024 BRIT Awards include several categories such as Best R&B Act, which critics have claimed in the past lacked representation of R&B artists. The ceremony will also launch the category of Best R&B Act, which includes nominees such as Mahalia, Jorja Smith, and Cleo Sol, among others
