Gatwick Express trains have also been suspended due to a points failure.
Southern officials announced that points failures occurred at Haywards Heath and Hove, while Thameslink services between Cambridge and Brighton have been cancelled. Network Rail has apologized for any inconvenience caused by the power failure which occurred at around 3.04 am. The failure resulted in a loss of power across a UK power network, causing severe disruption to the Three Bridges signally center that controls the majority of the Sussex route.
While Southern services have resumed operations, significant disruptions remain for both Southern and Thameslink services. Network Rail has encouraged passengers to remain patient and check with their train operator before traveling to get the latest information and updates.
Passengers are advised to allow an extra 60 minutes when travelling due to the disruptions. The company responsible for Govia Thameslink expects that disruptions between East Croydon and Brighton will continue until noon
