Paul Weller, best known as the former frontman of The Jam, has announced the release of his upcoming album titled ’66’. This album marks the 17th solo album release for Weller, with a release date of May 24th, a day before he turns 66 years old. The album is set to reflect on the aging artist’s creative decisions, inner life and the world around him. The 12-track album is filled with collaborations with heralded artists such as Madness frontman Suggs, Noel Gallagher, and Bobby Gillespie, to name a few.
Reflecting on his place in the universe, “Soul Wandering” is the album’s first single. The song is reminiscent of the legendary artist David Bowie, instilled with a heavy percussive groove and Weller’s introspective lyrics. The album is stated to cover topics such as faith, changing circumstances and the realities of life in contemporary times. Weller will be using his music for a message of positivity and wisdom.
Christophe Vaillant, or Le Superhomard, is one of the collaborations featured on the album. Brooklyn’s Say She She is also included, adding vocals to “In Full Flight”. Other old friends of Weller featured on the album include Steve Brooks, Dr Robert, Richard Hawley, and Max Beasley.
Weller and his band have a series of UK tour dates this spring, which began on April 2 at Shepherds Bush Empire. The tour has a lineup of 14 shows across the month, with venues in cities including Leicester, Bristol, Sheffield, York, and Lincoln. The tour wraps up on April 21 at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge.
Earlier this year, the veteran musician Paul Weller was in the spotlight for sharing his thoughts on the scarcity of younger artists releasing new music, and for calling out those who view him as a heritage act. Fans of the musician eagerly await his next endeavour and hope to see him live in concert when possible
