A draft of the Star Wars script left in a London flat by Harrison Ford during his time filming Episode IV – A New Hope in 1976 was sold at auction last week. The script, which is reported to come from Ford’s own collection and includes famous scenes and lines of dialogue, sold for £10,795. Among items left with the script was a description of the piece which gives its provenance. It reads: “This item came from the home of a family in which Harrison Ford stayed during the filming of Star Wars throughout 1976 and is likely his own copy…” The vendor of the flat was unaware of Ford’s celebrity when he rented the flat and fainted upon meeting the star. The vendor said when she subsequently told Ford he found this “amusing”.
Excalibur Auctions, which sold the script along with other items of unique Star Wars memorabilia, reported global interest and competitive bidding. Sarah Torode, co-owner, said: “It’s got his DNA on it. It might even have his sweat on it.” Co-owner Jonathan Torode said the sale included “never-before-seen pieces of Star Wars history”.
