Reports have emerged that a new Game of Thrones prequel based on the Dunk and Egg short stories by George R.R. Martin is set to begin filming this year. It is rumoured that this new series will be called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. According to Westerosies on X, filming will commence on June 3 in Belfast, Northern Ireland where the original Game Of Thrones series was filmed.
The Dunk and Egg short stories depict the adventures of the knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg or Prince Aegon Targaryen. These events take place decades before Game of Thrones but after House of the Dragon, another Thrones spin-off. The cast details are not known, however, sources claim that the shooting will take place in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Earlier in February, The Hollywood Reporter reported that HBO was moving ahead with its long-discussed Aegon’s Conquest idea. The company was partnering with Mattson Tomlin, who completed some uncredited work on Matt Reeves’ The Batman, to co-write it. He also wrote the Keanu Reeves action comic adaptation BRZRKR and an animated Terminator series which he is also showrunning for Netflix.
George R.R. Martin revealed that he is working on a number of animated projects with HBO, all of which would be set in the world of A Song Of Ice And Fire. He wrote on his blog, “None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we are getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them.”
HBO has not yet commented on the new series being developed, and more information is expected to come out in the coming months
