The upcoming ‘Borderlands’ movie trailer has not been received well by fans. The Lionsgate adaptation of the popular first-person shooter series stars Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Hart, with Jack Black playing the role of robot Claptrap. In the film, Blanchett reprises her role as Lilith, an outlaw who returns to her home planet of Pandora when weapons manufacturer Atlas recruits her to find his missing daughter. She brings together a crew of five other outcasts to explore the planet while searching for Atlas’s daughter.
However, comments from fans on the trailer have been quite negative. Many feel as if the movie seems too similar to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, stating that the cast for the movie seemed odd. Some also made remarks of the selection of Jack Black as the voice of the robot character, Claptrap, rather than choosing Claptrap’s original voice actor. Despite negative remarks, it was confirmed that the film will stay authentic to the original characters, tone and style, but will have independent storylines from the video game series.
The film, directed by Eli Roth and penned by ‘Chernobyl’ creator Craig Mazin, was first announced in 2015 and filming began in 2021. Test screenings were reportedly held in November and, as we previously reported, the film required two weeks of reshoots, helmed by ‘Deadpool’ director Tim Miller. The release date of the film is scheduled for August 9, 2024, despite the negative reactions to the trailer from fans.
It is worth noting that negative reactions to a film on the basis of trailers or teasers before its release are not uncommon; often, a trailer fails to capture the essence of a film, or simply fails to please fans as a basic marketing tool. Therefore, the final verdict on this movie will be solely at the discretion of the viewers, as this controversial trailer may not necessarily reflect the actual quality of the film
