Leicester: Boy missing in river is bundle of joy, says mother

A boy named Xielo Maruziva, aged 2, was reported missing after falling into the River Soar in Aylestone, Leicester at 5 pm on Sunday. Despite a police search, which is currently in its fourth day, the child has yet to be found. The inclement weather has hampered the investigation, impairing specialist teams’ search efforts.

Leicestershire police continue to receive support and assistance from specialist teams across the country. CCTV footage that reportedly shows Xielo falling into the river has been recovered by police. Xielo’s father, who attempted to rescue him, expressed devastation and thanked the search teams and the public for their contributions.

The family also released a statement, acknowledging the support received in the search for their beloved son and asking for him to be found as soon as possible. His mother described Xielo as a “funny, smart, caring and independent little boy” who “loves a cuddle and some kisses.” While the weather has made it more difficult for teams to recognize potential areas of interest, it has not deterred the diligent search by police in the hopes of finding the missing boy.

The force has disseminated an appeal for witnesses to authorities. They have also requested that the public abstain from embarking on individual searches, urging instead that information pass directly to the police
