Dukeyman, a notable Baltimore club DJ, has passed away, as per a Facebook post shared by a close friend of the artist, Wayne Smith. The post describes Dukeyman as a musician, producer, video editor, and mentor. Wayne recounts how Dukeyman always supported him through his DJing journey. Dukeyman, whose real name was Ronald Hall Jr., was admitted to the hospital after suffering from a stroke. However, the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
Dukeyman started his musical journey in 1987 and aided in creating the sound of Baltimore club music as it came to popularity in the early 1990s. Over the years, he released several tracks, including ‘Best Friend’, ‘Hush Dat Fuss’, ‘Shorty U Phat’, ‘Hear The Drummer’, and ‘Gimme Some Mo’. Dukeyman counted Rod Lee, D.J. Patrick, Dj Quest, and DJ Technics among his collaborators, with labels like Quiet, Baltimore Breakbeat, and Unruly Records releasing his works.
Many Baltimore club fans and fellow musicians are sharing their condolences and remembering the late musician. One such fan, who shared a post on Twitter, describes Dukeyman as a legend and thanks him for his contributions to Baltimore’s music scene.
