Following the devastating loss of vocalist Riley Gale in 2020, Texas thrash metal band Power Trip are making a comeback later this year with a new singer. The band recently announced that they will be performing at the inaugural No Values festival in California in June, marking their first show since their last performance with Gale four years ago.
In a statement shared on social media, the band reflected on the challenges they have faced over the past four years and their grief over the loss of Gale. Guitarists Blake Ibanez and Nick Stewart, bassist Chris Whetzel, and drummer Chris Ulsh acknowledged the deep pain of their loss and how it has marked their journey since their last performance as Power Trip.
Despite the profound impact of Gale’s death, the band affirmed that their love for music and its power to bring people together remains unchanged. They expressed their gratitude for the unwavering support of their fans and pledged to get back on stage for those who have been with them throughout their existence as a band.
Power Trip also announced that Seth Gilmore of Fugitive and Skourge will serve as the band’s new vocalist for a string of upcoming shows. Gilmore has already performed with Power Trip, joining the band for five songs at a surprise gig in Texas in December 2020. The band has yet to announce additional performance dates beyond the No Values festival.
While the loss of Gale has been an unmatched loss for the band and their fans, Power Trip has made clear their determination to honor his legacy by continuing to create and share their music with the world. With their imminent return to the stage, they have the opportunity to do just that, proving once again the resilience and power of the thrash metal community
