Wolf Alice sign major new record label after split with Dirty Hit

London-based rock band Wolf Alice has signed with Columbia Records. The band has moved to Columbia after completing their deal with independent record label Dirty Hit, with whom they released three albums, including 2021’s ‘Blue Weekend’. The departure from Dirty Hit was “a calculated move”, according to the band’s manager, Stephen Taverner. Outlets have reported that the CEO of Sony Music, Rob Stringer, is known to be a fan of the group.

Wolf Alice has had a quiet year, but their song ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’ recently featured on the soundtrack of ‘The Boys’ spin-off, ‘Gen V’. The guitarist, Joff Oddie, also appeared at the Featured Artists Coalition’s annual AGM as part of a panel of artists discussing what challenges and opportunities lie ahead in the year 2023. In September 2023, the band played an intimate charity show at London’s Sebright Arms as part of Barnfest, an all-dayer raising money for children’s cancer charity Flynne’s Barn.

The show included acoustic renditions of their own songs, along with covers of Alex G’s ‘Bobby’, Johnny Flynn’s ‘The Water’, The Pogues’ ‘I’m A Man You Don’t Meet Everyday’, and the traditional American folk song ‘Plastic Jesus’. Wolf Alice also appeared alongside Mel C and Self Esteem on the track ‘Call Me A Lioness’. Recorded for the England Women’s World Cup team, the track celebrated their win at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 and rallied behind them for the World Cup. The lyrics also make reference to Chloe Kelly and Ella Toone, who scored in the Euro Final.
