‘Star Wars Jedi’ actor says a live-action appearance must be “right” for the story

Actor Cameron Monaghan, who plays Cal Kestis in the Star Wars Jedi series, has shared that he is interested in reprising the role in a live-action adaptation provided that the story makes sense and continues the character’s narrative. Speaking at a panel at Fan Expo Vancouver 2024, Monaghan stated, “I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself. So, it would have to make sense. But in the right context then, yeah, absolutely.”

Monaghan’s portrayal of Cal Kestis, a survivor of the Great Jedi Purge, has been praised for its performance and has received nominations for Best Performance at The Game Awards 2023 and Best Lead Performer at the Golden Joystick Awards 2023. Cal’s story will also continue in the third Star Wars Jedi game, which was announced in 2023.

Director Stig Asmussen has left Respawn Entertainment, the game’s developer, but shared that he believes there is a “pretty safe assumption” that the next game will be made in Unreal Engine 5. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor received positive reviews for its evolved combat mechanics and moving storyline and was one of NME’s highest-rated games of 2023.
