Jamie Laing pays tribute to “legend” Jordan North after backlash to news of BBC Radio 1 replacement

Following the announcement that he would be taking over as host of BBC Radio 1’s Drivetime Show, Jamie Laing has paid tribute to his predecessor Jordan North. Last week it was announced that Laing would be joining Vick Hope as the new host of the show, replacing North who had presented at Radio 1 for ten years. North is set to move over to Capital FM to take over from Roman Kemp on the Capital Breakfast show.

Despite the decision to bring in Laing as a replacement, some listeners took to social media to criticise the move and accused the reality star of not being as deserving of the role as North. Responding to the backlash, Laing has taken to social media to describe North as a “pro/legend” and share his excitement to take on the role.

In his statement, Laing expressed his admiration for working alongside Vick Hope and revealed his excitement to join the BBC Radio 1 family. He also acknowledged North’s contribution to the Drivetime Show, saying that he’s left “really big shoes to fill” and that he’s going to “do his absolute best to do him and the show justice”. Laing concluded by promising to pour everything he has into making the show the best it can be for the listeners who love it so much.

North has also taken to social media to thank his colleagues and producers at Radio 1 for their support and kind messages following his departure. He has also reassured his followers that he will be back soon and can’t wait to see everyone again.

Jordan North formerly worked at Rock FM and Capital Manchester, appearing on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2020 where he finished as a runner-up to Giovanna Fletcher. He also hosts the highly popular podcast Help I Sexted My Boss alongside etiquette expert, William Hanson
