The Royal Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre in London played host to the 77th edition of the BAFTA, also known as the British Academy Film Awards, on the night of February 18. The ceremony was run by David Tennant for the first time, and it has so far crowned winners in each of the categories.
In January, the British Academy Film Awards announced their nominations, with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer being the frontrunner with 13 total nominations. Meanwhile, Barbie and Saltburn both received five nods each.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor performed Murder on the Dancefloor at the ceremony, following on from its resurgence in popularity after its use in the final scene of Saltburn. During the In Memoriam segment of the show, Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham offered a performance of ‘Time After Time’.
Samantha Morton was awarded the BAFTA Fellowship Award, while June Givanni, a Guyanese-born, London-based film curator who has championed African cinema, received the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award.
The full list of BAFTA winners includes a broad range of films, actors, and production categories, with The Zone of Interest claiming the Outstanding British Film Award. Anatomy of a Fall, directed by Justine Triet, won in the Best Film and Original Screenplay categories. The Holdovers also won several awards, including Supporting Actress and Casting
