David Tennant, known for his roles in Doctor Who and Broadchurch, hosted the Bafta Film Awards ceremony on Sunday and graced the red carpet in a green and gold astrology-inspired suit. Among the other stars in attendance at the Royal Festival Hall was singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who performed her 2001 hit Murder on the Dancefloor. The song has recently gained popularity again after being featured in a key scene of the film Saltburn.

Cillian Murphy is one of the top contenders for the best actor award for his work on Oppenheimer, which leads the field with 13 nominations. His co-star, Robert Downey Jr, is also tipped to win the best supporting actor award. Daisy Edgar-Jones rocked a plunging burgundy gown with matching hot pants, while Lily Collins stood out in a dramatic black column gown with a floral neckline and puff sleeves.

Charithra Chandran, who starred in the hit series Bridgerton, had a jewelled vine detail on her dress, and Lashana Lynch, who has appeared in No Time to Die, The Woman King, and Marvel, won the Bafta rising star award two years ago. Her co-star in The Woman King, Sheila Atim, wore a shimmering silver gown and took selfies with fans.

Andrew Scott, who stars in Strangers, arrived on the red carpet with the film’s director, Andrew Haigh. Composer Daniel Pemberton wore a suit with a clue to the movie he is nominated for – Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Kingsley Ben-Adir, who recently played Bob Marley in the biopic One Love, also greeted the crowds.

All of the stars looked glamorous on the red carpet, with their outfits chosen in a deliberate effort to stand out from the crowd. The Bafta Film Awards ceremony was a success, and all of the nominees performed admirably on stage. It was truly a night to remember
