T Walmsley, the bassist of Temples, has released his new single ‘Tommywood’, which has a dreamy, 80s synthpop-inspired sound. The accompanying video shows Walmsley dancing around in a retro-inspired bedroom fitted out with roses and zebra-striped sheets. The inspiration behind the song comes from Walmsley’s struggles with erectile dysfunction, a taboo subject that he hopes will get talked about more candidly.
The song is Walmsley’s first new music since his 2022 EP ‘Viva Lost Wages’. The single was written and demoed with producer Matthew Marcantonio (Demob Happy) in a budget motel in Hollywood. Walmsley said, “Tommywood is about that place of safety you find in solitude, but acknowledging the need of more than physical touch to truly connect with someone.”
Temples’ guitarist, Adam Smith, also unveiled new music under the name Foxette Moxy last year; he shared his first single ‘Medicine’ and the B-side ‘What’s Youth, Papa?’. Temples is set to release its new album ‘Exotico’ on April 14 via ATO Records; produced by Sean Ono Lennon, the album’s singles so far include ‘Gamma Rays’ and ‘Cicada’.
T Walmsley’s last solo work, ‘On The Ice’, dealt with similar themes of love. The song is a modern love song about never truly knowing where you stand. Walmsley said of the track, “You’re in relationship purgatory, drowning your sorrows in an alternate reality, but the drinks are free. And finding relief in being frozen out by that special someone.
