West of England train disruption and cancellations due to flooding

Heavy rainfall has disrupted and cancelled some train services during the night. The railway line between Swindon and Chippenham is presently blocked due to flooding in the Dauntsey area, which has led to cancelled or severely delayed services. Great Western Railway (GWR) announced that flooding has also affected alternative routes that would usually be used to divert services. Trains between Taunton and Westbury have also been impacted, due to flooding in the Somerton area between Taunton and Castle Cary.

GWR informed that limited train service will run in both directions between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads via Chippenham and Bath Spa. The company also mentioned that the line between Swindon and Bristol Parkway is blocked, leading to disruptions in services between London Paddington and Cardiff Central. As a result, a limited train service will run in both directions between London Paddington and South Wales. All disruption is anticipated to continue until 12:00 GMT.

GWR further stated, “We’re sorry for the delay to your journey”. The situation of flooding has made it difficult for trains to maintain their regular schedules on these routes. The public is advised to keep track of the related updates to avoid inconvenience during their journey. Passengers can expect further announcements or alerts on GWR’s social media channels.
