Killer Mike claps back at Kai Cenat over Grammy win controversy

Streamer Kai Cenat recently criticized Killer Mike’s Best Rap Album win at this year’s Grammy Awards. Despite beating out commercially successful records such as Travis Scott’s ‘UTOPIA’, Drake and 21 Savage’s ‘Her Loss’, and Metro Boomin’s ‘Heroes & Villains’, Cenat questioned the decision. While speaking on The Breakfast Club radio show, Killer Mike addressed Cenat’s comments and joked about the brief rant. He also expressed his support for the young streamer’s future aspirations. At the 2024 Grammy ceremony, Mike won Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for ‘Scientists & Engineers’, his collaboration with Eryn Allen Kane, Future, and Andre 3000.

In an interview with NME, Mike revealed that ‘Michael’ was the first of an album trilogy and that he would be back to work before the end of the year. He wants to create works of art that will be around long after he’s gone, and he did not confirm any plans or release dates for the other two installments in the ‘Michael’ franchise. The Run The Jewels rapper further elaborated on this when he spoke at a panel talk curated by Apple Music last weekend.

Killer Mike expressed his gratitude for winning the Best Rap Album award and acknowledged Cenat’s disappointment. He encouraged Cenat to own his emotions and joked about how he didn’t know who the young streamer was before his comments. Despite this, Killer Mike extended an olive branch to Cenat and expressed his desire to see him win. The rapper believes that Cenat’s leadership skills will grow over time and that ‘Michael’ will be more relevant to him as he matures into adulthood.

In addition to winning two Grammy Awards, Killer Mike was also arrested at the same event on a misdemeanour battery charge for an alleged physical altercation. However, he was released the next day. Despite the controversy, the rapper remains focused on his music and his desire to create works of art that will stand the test of time
