Actor Sylvester Stallone has revealed he would like Ryan Gosling to play the titular character in a potential fifth Rambo film. Stallone shared that he met Gosling at a dinner and was fascinated to hear that the actor had an affiliation with Rambo since his childhood. “If I ever pass the baton, I’ll pass it on to him because he loves the character,” Stallone said.
Stallone starred as John Rambo in the first four films of the franchise, which began with First Blood in 1982. If a fifth Rambo film were to be made, Stallone wants Ryan Gosling to take on the role of Rambo. Commenting on his potential successor, Stallone said: “I would say yes but I don’t know if anyone would say, ‘Hey, he’s too good-looking to be Rambo.’”
Ryan Gosling has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie”. Gosling shared in an interview that Stallone’s 1980s wardrobe had provided some inspiration behind Ken’s iconic mink coat in the movie. In the same conversation, the actor revealed how he and Gerwig had used the coat to distinguish between multiple Ken characters in the film.
In early February, Stallone paid tribute to his former Rocky co-star Carl Weathers after the actor died on February 1, aged 76. Stallone tweeted: “Rest in Power Carl Weathers. You made an amazing contribution to this world. Keep punching, my friend.”
While there are no concrete plans for a fifth Rambo film as of yet, Stallone has previously said that he is open to the idea of one more film, provided it is “moving and believable”. For now, fans of the franchise will have to wait and see if Gosling is happy to take up the mantle of John Rambo
