IDLES recreate Coldplay’s ‘Yellow’ with new video for ‘Grace’

Punk rock band IDLES have released a new video for their song ‘Grace’. The video features an AI recreation of Coldplay’s iconic video for ‘Yellow’, with IDLES vocalist Joe Talbot adding his own twist by singing the lyrics of ‘Grace’. The concept for the video was inspired by a dream Talbot had, and he sought the permission of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin to use the imagery. Martin not only agreed but helped to train the AI software to make the performance look more realistic.

” No god, no king, I said love is the thing,” sings Talbot during the track, which is produced by Nigel Godrich, Kenny Beats and the band’s Mark Bowen. ‘Grace’ was first released as the second track to preview IDLES’ fifth album, ‘Tangk’, which was released on February 16. Other singles from the album include ‘Dancer’ featuring LCD Soundsystem, and ‘Gift Horse’, which the band performed on the Jimmy Fallon show.

In a four-star review, NME wrote: “‘TANGK’ is an adventure into pastures new. Talbot is keen to put arm’s length at the material that exorcises his past traumas and battles with addiction and general frustration at the modern malaise. Now’s a time of appreciation and restraint.’ Speaking to NME, Talbot said: “It’s our most vivid and our most accomplished songwriting. We’ve finished songs… what we did have were songs and parts that we f****** loved.”

IDLES are set to perform at this year’s End of the Road Festival and will embark on a long year of touring, including a European leg, a North American tour, and an extended UK headline tour at the end of the year. Extra UK tour dates were added due to demand for the band’s shows
