Sussex Police sell soundsystem confiscated from illegal rave on eBay

Last summer, Sussex Police seized eight speakers from an illegal rave that took place in the Forest Row area of East Sussex, attended by just 50 people. As no one came forward to claim the equipment, it was recently sold on eBay by the police force. The “mixed brand” and well-used stack sold for £72.

The sale of confiscated items on eBay is not uncommon among police forces in the UK; Sussex Police uses its account to sell lost property as well as confiscated goods that have been ordered by a court. The money raised is added to the Police Property Act Fund (PPAF), which allocates funds to “help support local projects undertaken by voluntary/charitable organisations that solely benefit the communities of Sussex.”

Sussex Police also currently has a Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX6 on sale for £225 and a Pioneer DJ DDJ-400 on sale for £60 from their eBay account.

The police hope to use the profits to support and benefit the local community. Becky Buckle, the Multimedia Editor of Mixmag, reported on the sale and reiterated the police’s statement that no one came forward to claim the equipment before they decided to sell it.
