Lionsgate has released the first official photo of Jaafar Jackson playing his uncle, Michael Jackson, in the upcoming biopic, “Michael.” The picture depicts Jackson as he performed on the “Dangerous Tour” in 1992-93. According to producer Graham King, Jaafar captures Michael’s look, notes, and dance moves better than any other possible candidate.

In the biopic, Jackson’s adult character is played by Jaafar, while the child version is portrayed by nine-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi. The late singer’s father, Joe Jackson, is played by Colman Domingo, who said to be excited to explore the “complicated soul” of Michael Jackson and his influence on music as well as culture. In addition, Domingo is thrilled to witness Jaafar’s impressive transformation as a performer.

“Michael,” directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, is scheduled for a theater release on April 18, 2025, in the United States. No UK release date has been announced yet. Meanwhile, the director of “Leaving Neverland,” a documentary that examined allegations of child sexual abuse by Jackson, recently criticized the upcoming biopic as it “will glorify a man who raped children.
