Wild Beasts’ Tom Fleming returns as One True Pairing with ‘Mid-Life Crisis’

Tom Fleming, formerly a member of indie rock band Wild Beasts, has debuted a new single under the moniker One True Pairing. ‘Mid-Life Crisis’ is a song about growing older and features reflective lyrics such as “Life is short and goes on forever/ Die young or live to regret”. The track is produced by John ‘Spud’ Murphy and accompanied by a video featuring Marek Larwood of Murder in Successville. One True Pairing will perform a live show in London on February 20, which will be Fleming’s first live performance in three years.

Wild Beasts announced their split in 2017, choosing to “leave this orbit”. Fleming had played bass in the band for over a decade before their dissolution. His debut album under the One True Pairing name was released in 2019 and received favourable reviews. This new release comes after 2020’s single ‘Frozen Food Centre’. Fans can enter a competition to win a ticket to the upcoming London show on the One True Pairing website.

Fleming said of the music video that “Marek perfectly captures this in his performance as a Thameslink suit who is able to find the absurd pitiful, then hilarious. You can laugh, sure, but it’s you too.” The song itself has been praised for its poignant lyrics and emotive instrumentation. One True Pairing is expected to release more music in the near future, with fans eagerly awaiting more details.

Overall, this latest release from Tom Fleming marks a promising continuation of his work in the music industry. As a former member of the beloved Wild Beasts, he has big shoes to fill, but if ‘Mid-Life Crisis’ is anything to go by, he is capable of carving out his own unique sound and identity
