During the airing of the 2024 Super Bowl, the first trailer for the upcoming film sequel, Twisters, was shown. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the movie will follow up on the 1996 film of the same name. The original film centred around Helen Hunt’s character, a meteorologist named Jo Harding, and her family, as they follow massive storms while also having to navigate their own lives.
The newly released trailer shows Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell as the main characters, appearing as members of two opposing groups chasing the violent storms. Mini-tornadoes pass them by as they drive through the heart of the destruction. Powell can be seen telling Edgar-Jones, “You ride your fears,” insisting that they do not face their fears directly.
Chung revealed that he wanted to retain the sense of excitement and adventure that he felt the first film delivered. Rather than being just another disaster movie, he aimed to make it feel more like an adventure movie. An additional reason he wanted to work on this project is that it inspired numerous people to become meteorologists or become interested in science and the weather.
In addition to Edgar-Jones and Powell, the film stars Anthony Ramos, Sasha Lane, Kiernan Shipka, Tunde Adebimpe, and other stars. The film is scheduled to debut on July 19, 2024, alongside other film previews such as Wicked: Part One and Deadpool 3. Usher will also be performing at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, following in the footsteps of Post Malone, who gave an acoustic performance to start off the game
