Usher has revealed that he once considered quitting music in order to pursue a career in acting. The singer, who is due to headline the halftime show at tonight’s NFL Super Bowl, admitted in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he struggled to match the success of his 2004 album, Confessions.

However, the experience of hosting a recent Las Vegas residency made him realise that music was his true passion. “I went to Las Vegas with no promise in a time when the world was not going anywhere because we were in a pandemic, and I had the hope that I could arouse people enough to come to Las Vegas and celebrate with me,” he said. “And it turned into, not only the most successful moments of Las Vegas history, but one of the most successful moments in my life.”

Usher added that he believes his recent success is a “virtuous story of belief in self.” Speaking about his upcoming Super Bowl performance, the artist said he viewed it not just as an opportunity to showcase his hits but as “a celebration of a career.”

Usher is due to embark on a “Past Present Future” North American tour later this year, celebrating both the 30th anniversary of his 1994 self-titled debut album, and the 20th anniversary of Confessions. The tour will begin in Washington DC on August 20th and finish with two shows in Chicago
