Scottish singer Lulu is set to retire from touring after 60 years in the music industry. The news follows her recent announcement of her final tour, “Champagne For Lulu”, running this April to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her hit song, ‘Shout’.
Known for her Eurovision-winning hit ‘Boom Bang-a-Bang’, Lulu has enjoyed an illustrious career since first coming into public attention at only 15 years old. Her debut cover of the Isley Brothers’ ‘Shout’, with Lulu & the Luvvers, remains a beloved hit today.
Lulu, also an accomplished actress, sang the title track for the 1967 classic To Sir, With Love, which became the highest-selling single that year in the United States. She later represented the United Kingdom at Eurovision in 1969, securing one of the country’s five victories in the contest’s history. She also sang the theme for James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun in 1974.
The singer teased some surprises in store for her final tour. Though she remained coy on the details, Lulu promised to perform fan favourites like ‘Boom Bang-a-Bang’ and her iconic hit ‘Shout’. She also commented on the difference between her past gruelling tours and her new approach: “I want to carry on working, but I want to do it a different way”.
Lulu’s retiring announcement comes after her recent appearance on popular singing competition The Masked Singer. Tickets for “Champagne For Lulu” are on sale now
