FX Chairman John Landgraf has announced that the third season of Emmy and Golden Globe winner, The Bear, is set to debut simultaneously on screens in June 2024. In an interview, Landgraf explained that the decision to allow viewers to binge-watch the show was deliberate and was in response to the “very uplifting” ending. “We all watched the first season, we talked about it, and it wasn’t lost on me or anyone else who worked on the show that it’s a little anxiety-inducing,” Landgraf said. “So we made a decision that we would drop the whole thing as a binge.”
Landgraf went on to explain that the team debated over the topic but, “we just decided not to change what we’d already set in motion. And I have no doubt we’ll just keep doing it.” The Bear’s popularity is reflected in the number of concurrent streams that were recorded during the eighth episode of the show. “There are currently a hundred thousand concurrent streams right now in America watching the eighth episode of The Bear – the day after we dropped the whole thing,” said Landgraf.
While fans eagerly anticipate the third season, the team behind the series is notoriously secretive with production details. Landgraf highlighted how the team kept the season two cameos a secret. Celebrity cameos included Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Will Poulter, Olivia Colman, and John Mulaney, among others. He explained that he was “as surprised as you when the Christmas episode came through the door,” adding, “I experienced the cast that had been pulled together with the surprise and freshness of the audience.”
NME hailed The Bear as the best series of 2023, stating that the show held the ability to display “the shit endlessly hitting the fan” better than any other. While fans may have to wait a few more years for the next season, it seems likely that the wait will be worth it.
The highly-acclaimed series has attracted a huge following due to its skillful directing and unique character arcs. The Bear has just finished its second season, winning six Emmys and three Golden Globe awards. As we look ahead, the team behind the show seems committed to maintaining the quality and integrity of the series
