M25 crash: Family pay tribute to 'wonderful mummy' who died

The family of an Essex woman who died in a M25 motorway car accident along with another victim have paid their heartfelt condolences to their “wonderful mummy and nanna”. The crash, which involved four vehicles, transpired shortly after a police pursuit between junction 22 (London Colney) and 21A (St Albans), Hertfordshire. The incident happened at around 04:00 GMT on the day of her fortieth birthday, which she and her husband were going to celebrate on vacation. The police have arrested a man in his 20’s on suspicion of being responsible for dangerous driving.

A GoFundMe page has been established by Ms Hawes’ friends and has already raised over £5,000 to support her funeral expenses. “She has left behind eight lovely children and two grandchildren together with her husband who is in a critical condition in the hospital”- stated the page, which went on to say- “she was the heart of our blended family”. Ms Hawes’ family paid her tribute by saying “she was a much-loved mum, stepmum, sister, aunt, and lovely young nanna”. They went on to say how she was looking forward to celebrating her 40th with her partner, whose condition remains critical.

The van crucially involved in the accident was being pursued by the police before the incident took place. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is presently investigating the accident in which the white Citroen Dispatch, which was previously reported stolen and was caught travelling on the wrong side of the motorway. Hertfordshire Police had ceased their pursuit of the automobile twice before the crash transpired. At about 04:08, the investigation authorities have claimed that the van had been seen moving on the wrong side of the M25 moments before clashing with the other vehicles.

Essex police are inquiring about the circumstances that led to the accident as investigators continue building evidence. Meanwhile, the family of Ms Hawes has requested privacy to grieve their loss during these difficult times
