The Black Keys have released a new single called “I Forgot To Be Your Lover”. The track is their second release from their upcoming album “Ohio Players” and is a rendition of William Bell’s original song. Tommy Brenneck and Kelly Finnigan are also featured on the record. The album is due for release on April 5 from Nonesuch/Warner and is available for pre-order and pre-save. Collaborators on the album include Beck, Noel Gallagher, and Greg Kurstin. The album features a variety of original tracks, and the band’s Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney worked closely with colleagues and friends to create an album that is distinct from any of their previous music.

The Black Keys approach to creating “Ohio Players” was a collaborative one, where they sought to involve their friends in their music-making. Auerbach and Carney are both experienced in co-writing and producing with other musicians and artists. They stressed the importance of maintaining their musical identity while working with others. They found that working with other artists only enhances their music and offered a new flavor to their music. Despite working with other artists, they finished the album with the duo working together. They mentioned that they had never worked as hard on an album before, and it took them a long time to finish the project to their satisfaction.

The band will also premier a new documentary called “This Is a Film About The Black Keys” at 2024’s SXSW festival. The documentary chronicles Auerbach and Carney’s journey from their beginnings together in Ohio to their current status as rock ‘n’ roll superstars. The documentary was directed by Jeff Dupre, who is best known for his 2012 film “Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present”. “Ohio Players” follows the release of the band’s 2022 album “Dropout Boogie”. The album received a three-star review from NME, where it was noted that the band was moving towards making music that had a local Nashville vibe.

Last year, NME spoke to The Black Keys about their upcoming album where Patrick Carney spoke about the “incredible” experience of working with Noel Gallagher. “He’s hilarious and super talented. We were referring to him as “The Chord Lord” because he’s just a perfectionist with it.” Noel Gallagher has also expressed his excitement about working with the band, describing their co-written songs as “fucking amazing
