A woman has been arrested in suspicion of administering a noxious substance or poison to cause injury, after two children were taken to hospital. The incident occurred in Hunters Way, Uckfield, where emergency services were called to a property following welfare concerns raised on Thursday. A woman, aged 38, and two children aged nine and 13 were taken to hospital. All three are in a serious condition, but currently stable.
Police in Wealden issued a statement stating the three individuals were taken to hospital. Sussex Police have confirmed that this was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the wider community. A spokesman for Sussex Police said that “our enquiries are ongoing and a heightened police presence is anticipated in the area at this time”. Neighbours have expressed their shock and concern for the family involved, after seeing the police statement posted on social media. One woman posted on social media “This is what all the sirens were for,” while others offered support in the hope that those involved make a speedy recovery.
