Usher promises to roller-skate during Super Bowl Halftime performance

Usher has announced that he plans to roller-skate during his Super Bowl Halftime performance set to take place this weekend. The R&B singer will perform at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas as part of the Super Bowl LVIII, where the Kansas City Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers. Last month, Usher teased that he would be bringing on “some important guests” and that the performance would feature some skating, “killer choreography”, and a “major costume change.” He has since elaborated on his plans, saying that he will recreate a skating sequence from his recent Vegas residency and that the Halftime Show would be a “crescendo,” marking a “new beginning” of his career.

Usher explained that putting together his setlist was a challenge, as he needed to condense 30 years of his career into just 13 minutes. He was mindful of his past and the songs for which he is most well-known, as well as popular dance routines from his past. The singer also hinted at surprise guests, saying that he would be joined onstage by artists who have appeared “on songs that became hit records.” He expressed that this gave him the greatest point of reference since he has previously collaborated with the likes of Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Lil Jon.

Usher recently revealed that he had been inspired by legendary Vegas showmen such as Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley while working on his Super Bowl Halftime Show, as well as music icons like Michael Jackson and Prince. He wanted the audience to feel as though they were being personally serenaded by him during the spectacle. Usher’s new album, Coming Home, was released on February 9, marking his first solo full-length project since 2016’s Hard II Love.

While Taylor Swift fans are anticipating her attendance at the Super Bowl, supporting her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, she is currently performing in Tokyo, Japan, with the final date scheduled for February 10
