Love Remain, a UK-based music producer, revealed that they will release a new EP called ‘Is What It Is’, featuring poetry from the late Gboyega Odubanjo. The EP includes a song called ‘LDN GIRLS’, which is out now, featuring the vocals of Odubanjo, who went missing after the Shambala festival in 2023. Love Remain, who was a friend of Odubanjo, produced the EP in tribute to his late friend. The poet’s close friends and family also appear on the new track and the music video.
“I’m so grateful we were able to have something that is representative of the time and place we were in and where we grew as friends,” said Love Remain. The anonymous producer goes on to say that he is grateful to have this song; his work exemplifies their shared experiences when creating it.
Gboyega Odubanjo was a British-Nigerian writer and poet who died at 27. He won the Eric Gregory Award, the New Poets’ Prize, and the Michael Marks Award for his work. A fundraiser for Odubanjo’s family was created when he was confirmed missing, which collected more than £80,000. With the help of these donations, his family and friends have launched The Gboyega Odubanjo Foundation, a charity that supports black artists from low-income households.
