(G)I-DLE’s Shuhua goes on temporary hiatus amid health issues

Taiwanese singer Shuhua of K-pop group (G)I-DLE has been forced to take a break from the band due to her declining physical condition. According to a statement released on fan community platform Weverse by the group’s label, CUBE Entertainment, Shuhua has been experiencing persistent dizziness necessitating hospital treatment. She will need “sufficient rest and stability” to recover, meaning she will have to miss upcoming (G)I-DLE appearances until further notice.

Despite expressing a strong desire to keep appearing, CUBE and Shuhua’s management decided to prioritise her recovery. This hiatus comes just days after she was absent from a live performance of the band’s comeback title ‘Super Lady’ and a scheduled fancall event on February 3rd. In both cases, her absence was due to a “physical illness” that fans now know to be related to her dizziness.

Super Lady is (G)I-DLE’s lead single from their second studio album ‘[2]’, which has been in the news for various reasons. The release was preceded by the single ‘Wife,’ which was banned by national broadcaster KBS for its “sexually explicit” lyrics. The broadcaster said that the song has “many metaphorical lyrics with sexual nuances,” though it didn’t specify to which lines in particular it was referring.

While it’s unclear when Shuhua will be able to resume her activities with (G)I-DLE, fans and colleagues alike are wishing her the best and hoping for a speedy recovery. Her absence will be felt, though every member of the group has expressed admiration for the fans’ support and promised to keep working hard on their behalf
