BEMA and Mixmag announced that Shygirl has won Best Electronic/Dance Act at this year’s MOBO Awards. The UK singer, songwriter, producer, and DJ has expressed her gratitude for the recognition and for being able to make the music she loves. Joining Shygirl as nominees for the category were Aluna, Nia Archives, PinkPantheress, salute, and TSHA.
Special achievement awards were given to Soul II Soul, Sugababes, and Ghetts. Raye and Central Cee received the Best Female and Best Male Act awards, respectively, and also won Song of the Year for their hit track “Sprinter” with Dave. Awards were also given to Little Simz for Best Hip-hop Act, Bugzy Malone for Best Grime Act, Inflo for Best Producer, and Potter Payper for Album of the Year for “Real Back In Style”.
Several performances were given during the event, including those by the Sugababes, Byron Messia, King Promise, and Ghetts. This marks the second year that MOBO Awards worked with the Black Electronic Music Association and Club BEMA to reintroduce the Best Electronic/Dance award, with Nia Archives winning the 2022 edition.
