Pop diva Mariah Carey is returning to the Las Vegas stage for an eight-show residency in April, according to an announcement on her Twitter account. Carey will perform at the Park MGM hotel and casino, with eight dates from April 12 to 27 booked at the Dolby Live venue. The event is named ‘The Celebration of Mimi’ in honor of her landmark album ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year. Carey will be singing fan favorites from the album as well as other hits from her extensive discography.
‘The Emancipation of Mimi’, Carey’s 10th studio album, was released to both critical and commercial acclaim in April 2005. It topped the Billboard 200 chart on the first week of its release and sold over 400,000 copies. At the 2006 Grammy Awards, the album won the Best Contemporary R&B Album award while single ‘We Belong Together’ claimed two prizes in the Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance categories.
Carey has recently performed several Vegas residencies and has been a familiar fixture in the Sin City. She performed 50 concerts at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for her ‘#1 To Infinity’ residency from 2015 to 2017 and returned to the same venue from 2018 to 2020 for ‘The Butterfly Returns’ residency series. Carey also played Christmas-themed shows in Caesars Palace in December 2017 and 2019.
Throughout her career, Carey has released more than ten studio albums and collaborated with many artists. Her latest album, ‘Caution’, came in 2018. Carey’s fans could secure their tickets for the Vegas residency at the Ticketmaster website from Saturday 10 a.m. PT.
