The highly anticipated animated series, ‘Spy x Family’, recently concluded the second season with many fans eagerly awaiting season three. However, the wait for the fans will be less prolonged due to a feature film spinoff titled ‘Code: White’. The film is directed by Takashi Katagiri and features an original script by Ichiro Okouchi, specifically created for both devoted fans and new viewers alike.
The movie cleverly spends its first ten minutes recapping the primary plot and characters for the uninitiated. Loid Forger, the alter ego of Twilight, a Westalis super spy, is undercover in the neighbouring country of Ostania. To maintain his cover, he marries Yor, a lonely civil servant working as an underground assassin, and adopts Anya, an orphan with secret telepathy abilities that reveal her parent’s double lives. Domestic comedy and slick action have since been the show’s bread and butter for viewers.
The movie continues its successful formula with Loid Forger becoming frustrated with his lack of progress on Operation Strix. He desperately needs Anya to win the cooking competition at Eden Academy to ingratiate himself to an Ostanian official. Consequently, the Forgers take a relaxing family vacation to picturesque Frejis, where Anya accidentally ingests a bonbon containing crucial microfilm related to a nefarious military plot, entangling them in a web of wild misunderstandings and hilarious shenanigans.
The movie has everything audiences want, including amazing fight sequences with Yor taking the spotlight, showcasing her badass fighting skills. Anya remains adorable and entertaining, even with her odd pooping habit, making her a scene-stealer. Despite a few shortcomings like underwhelming villains and a lack of stakes, which typically come with a movie based on a manga or anime, the movie is a good addition to the franchise.
‘Spy x Family – Code: White’ will release in Asia on February 8, with UK fans eagerly awaiting its release on Crunchyroll. The movie stands alone and is a perfect addition to the franchise
