In a historic win, Paramore has claimed the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, becoming the first female-fronted band to do so. Their 2023 album, ‘This Is Why’, beat out fellow nominees Foo Fighters, Greta Van Fleet, Metallica, and Queens of the Stone Age. Although solo female artists Alanis Morrissette and Sheryl Crow previously won the award in the ’90s, this marks the first time a female-fronted band has taken home the honor.

In addition to Best Rock Album, Paramore also won Best Alternative Music Performance for the album’s title track. The band now has a total of three Grammy wins, having previously taken home the award for Best Rock Song in 2015 for ‘Ain’t It Fun’. However, the band did not attend this year’s ceremony, opting instead to celebrate at home with cake.

Several other notable moments occurred at the 2024 Grammys, including Joni Mitchell reflecting on her surprise appearance at the 2022 Newport Folk Festival and the confirmation of a familial bond between Boygenius members amid reports of an impending hiatus. Dua Lipa premiered her new single ‘Training Season’, while Tracy Chapman joined Luke Combs for their first joint performance of ‘Fast Car’. SZA, the most-nominated artist of the night, brought “Tarantino energy” to the stage with her performances of ‘Snooze’ and ‘Kill Bill’. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift announced her new album ‘The Tortured Poet’s Department’ and U2 took the audience inside their Las Vegas Sphere residency.
