Kim Ji-woong, a member of the K-pop group ZEROBASEONE, has denied swearing at a fan during a video call. The claim was made by a fan on X, who uploaded a clip of a video call event featuring the boyband where a male voice can allegedly be heard swearing after Kim Ji-woong goes offscreen. The user who uploaded the clip asked if the K-pop idol “normally end[s] a fan event with such language?” and expressed upset over the alleged incident. However, ZEROBASEONE’s agency, WAKEONE, has denied the allegations in a statement to Sports Seoul.
WAKEONE also added in a later statement that it would be taking legal action against individuals who have threatened its artists’ safety or infringed on their rights, including those who are “creating and spreading fake edits and posts”. The agency said that it would be using methods such as digital media forensics to “reveal the definitive truth” and would “mobilise all resources at our disposal in order to protect our artist”.
ZEROBASEONE were due to perform at the Krazy Super Concert 2024 at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on February 9 and 10. However, the event has since been postponed due to incoming heavy rains across the Southern California region.
It is important that artists’ safety and rights are protected, and that legal action is taken against those who threaten them. This is especially important in the age of social media, where fake edits and posts can be created and spread rapidly, potentially damaging the reputation of individuals or groups.
