The 2024 Grammy Awards have just passed and, as usual, quite a few talking points have been generated. The ceremony witnessed many EPIC artist performances that left a lasting impression on its audience. One of the most notable moments was when Jay-Z was accepting the Global Impact Award and took a jab at the Recording Academy for never awarding Beyoncé Album Of The Year. While onstage, Jay-Z suggested that the Recording Academy should re-work its metrics, stating: “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of The Year; so even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that: the most Grammys, never won Album of The Year, that doesn’t work.” Beyoncé has won an amazing 32 Grammys over the course of her career, but did not receive any nominations for the 2024 awards.
Jay-Z used his speech to urge the Recording Academy to, “get it right”. He added, “Some of you are gonna go home tonight and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you don’t belong in the category. When I get nervous, I tell the truth. But outside of that, you gotta keep showing up.” Jay-Z spoke out about the 1998 “Best Rap Album” nominations where he was a nominee and DMX was not. At this point, he urged the Academy to do better and nominate based on merit.
There were so many other exciting things that happened during the awards ceremony. Taylor Swift announced her new album, “The Tortured Poet’s Department” as she was awarded the Best Pop Vocal Album. Boygenius confirmed that they’re going on hiatus as they won one of the coveted grammys, while Joni Mitchell collected her 10th Award. Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo also put on memorable performances at the show.
The Grammy Awards always create buzz and excitement, and this year was no different. Fans and supporters of both Jay-Z and Beyoncé took to social media to express their opinions and feelings about Jay-Z’s statements. The fact remains that Beyoncé is indeed one of the most awarded and hardworking artists in the world, and she definitely deserves recognition for her accomplishments!
