In the early hours of Saturday morning, a delivery driver in Dundee was threatened with a weapon and had his van stolen by two men. The driver, aged 51, was approached by the two perpetrators in Exchange Street at around 5:15 am, whilst he was carrying out his deliveries. The white van, which was emblazoned with the logo of “Les Turriff – Fruit and Vegetable Deliveries”, was found by police in Glenrothes, with its contents intact. Whilst the driver was not physically harmed, he was left shaken by the incident.
The detectives investigating the incident have described how the van was driven recklessly through the city centre, causing several other vehicles, including taxis, to manoeuvre around it. They also discovered that the van had been driven over the Tay Bridge before being deserted in Glenrothes. The police have appealed for information regarding the robbery and the two men involved in it.
The first culprit was around 5ft 10in tall, with a stocky build, and was wearing a dark hooded top with a grey panel and dark jogging bottoms. He had his hood up, and his face was partially obscured. The second suspect was around 6ft tall and had a thinner build. He wore a dark jacket and tracksuit bottoms, and his jacket had light-coloured flashes on the sleeves. The police encourage anyone who may have seen, or who has dashcam footage of the incident, between 5:00am and 5:30 am to come forward.
Detective Constable David Feeney, who is leading the investigation, said that the men had been seen around the city centre at Dock Street approximately 50 minutes before the robbery. Therefore, any other delivery drivers or motorists in the area that night are encouraged to contact the police with any information that could help with the investigation.
