Jon Bon Jovi was honoured with the MusiCares Person of the Year Award at the Los Angeles Convention Center, which was also attended by Bruce Springsteen. The two legendary rockers treated the audience to a performance of ‘Who Says You Can’t Go Home’ by Bon Jovi and ‘The Promised Land’ by Springsteen. Bon Jovi also debuted a new song called ‘Legendary’. The event also featured performances from other renowned musicians including Shania Twain, Sammy Hagar, Goo Goo Dolls and Jason Isbell. The night ended with all musicians coming together for a performance of ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’.
Earlier this week, Bruce Springsteen paid tribute to his mother Adele, who passed away on January 31 at the age of 98. During his speech at the end of the show, Bon Jovi acknowledged the fact that Springsteen had lost his mother just two days ago. Bon Jovi said, “Bruce’s mom passed two days ago. When I first got the news, he was already on the airplane on the way here. But he wanted to be here tonight for MusiCares. And he wanted to be here tonight for me, and I’m forever grateful to you.”
Richie Sambora, the long-time former bandmate of Bon Jovi, was rumoured to make an appearance at the show but that did not happen. Sambora left the band in 2013, citing personal reasons.
The MusiCares Person of the Year is an annual gala hosted by the non-profit organization affiliated with the Recording Academy and the Grammys. The award has been handed out since 1991, and recent recipients include Smokey Robinson, Joni Mitchell and Dolly Parton. Hulu has acquired a new documentary about Bon Jovi titled ‘Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story’, which is set to premiere on April 26
