Kathleen Hanna announces clothing line featuring Queen Latifah, Run-DMC, Salt-N-Pepa

Kathleen Hanna, former lead singer of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre, has unveiled a new collection of clothing called “Early Days.” The limited edition collection, which features icons of 80s hip-hop such as Queen Latifah, Run-DMC, and Salt ‘N’ Pepa, is available for pre-order for a limited time. The clothing line is dedicated to the early days of hip-hop and its legacy of inspiring people to pursue their dreams.

The photos for the clothing line were taken by Janette Beckman, a pioneer in documenting the burgeoning hip hop scene in 80s and 90s New York City. The pre-order for the collection is intended to minimize waste by printing based on demand. The project aims to raise $20,000 for Peace Sisters, the non-profit for which Hanna is an ambassador that supports girls’ education in Togo, West Africa.

Additionally, Hanna will be releasing her memoir “Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk” later this year. The book details her life and relationships, as well as the emergence of the Riot Grrrl movement. It will be published on May 14, 2024, via the Harper Collins imprint Ecco. The book will cover topics such as male violence and antagonism toward women in the punk rock scene in the 80s and 90s.

Hanna will also be embarking on a book tour in the United States. Bikini Kill re-united in 2019 and recently completed their first UK and Europe tour in 18 years back in April of this year. Both the clothing line and her book support sustainable and feminist causes
