‘Skate’ confirms Steam release and console playtests

Skate, the much-anticipated sequel to 2010’s Skate 3, is set to be released on Steam, with console playtests scheduled for later this year, according to gaming publisher EA. Skate is currently in development by Full Circle and doesn’t have a release date yet, but EA has confirmed that the game will make its debut on PC. It’s unclear when Skate will be launched on Xbox or PlayStation.

Previously, EA announced that Skate would be a free-to-play game supported by microtransactions that won’t provide gameplay-altering advantages and won’t have loot boxes. EA executive VP and COO Laura Miele said in a 2022 earnings call that the free-to-play model was intended to appeal to Gen-Z and Gen Alpha players. She stated that when Skate first debuted, it was ahead of its time, and the company is now trying to tap into the “core motivation” behind the Skate experience, which is creative self-expression and social connection and competition.

EA has also confirmed a release date before 2050, with several playtests scheduled to take place this year. Skate’s official Twitter feed has confirmed that gamers can sign up for the closed playtests, and the latest console versions will begin to run shortly. In other news, indie shooter Children Of The Sun, created by René Rother and published by Devolver Digital, has released a free demo
