Late on Thursday night, a 15-year-old boy was hit by a car on A59, Walton Vale in Liverpool, following “some sort of altercation” with three men wearing balaclavas who were armed with machetes and in the vehicle. The driver then fled the scene. The boy remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition. Merseyside Police are investigating the incident and seeking the three men who were in the car. Detectives are trying to establish what happened and urged witnesses to come forward.

Detective Inspector Alan Wood said that there appeared to have been “some sort of altercation involving the injured male and the three males in the car prior to the collision taking place.” However, he did not provide further details. “We are determined to find the three males who were in the car after they fled the area on foot and officers remain at the scene to explore CCTV opportunities and carry out witness and house-to-house enquiries,” he added. “We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information to help our ongoing investigation.”

A long section of the A59 was closed off after the incident, with police telling drivers to avoid the area. Police are also appealing to anyone in the area at the time of the incident to come forward and provide information about what they may have seen. The investigation is ongoing and police have not yet identified any suspects.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Crimestoppers, an anonymous tip line. Police have also urged members of the public who believe they may have seen the dark-colored Volvo to come forward.

The event has come as a shock to the community and people are urged to remain calm while the police investigate. Several people have expressed their outrage online and called for anyone with information to come forward to help the police with their investigation and bring those responsible to justice
